Evidence File Uploader
A desktop application that allows users to upload third-party files to a cloud storage system. The ask was to pull existing functionality from a legacy product (Evidence Sync), and address any low-hanging fruit in the redesign process.
The new standalone product (Evidence Upload XT) would allow engineering to avoid maintaining a legacy product with significant technical debt. Building this new product from the ground up offered the design team a unique opportunity to test & prove the value of new UX patterns.

Legacy Product: Evidence Sync
Project Priorities
Match the functionality for file uploads, metadata edits, and scheduled uploads
Create a UI that is consistent with Axon’s other desktop product, View XL
Implement a new UX pattern for bulk metadata edits
Process
Research
PM & design conducted 30 minute phone interviews with customers.
Key takeaways:
A full screen mode would be helpful for detectives conducting investigative work on images taken at crime scenes
Users are uncertain whether their files uploaded to Evidence.com successfully
Users would like the ability to create an upload schedule for non-critical files during off-peak hours, so as not to disrupt agency’s network during the day
Note: this feature actually did exist in the legacy product, so this feedback alerted us to a discoverability issue
